Flint and chert
Flint has the ability to strike sparks and this was used in the past for making fire. Hornstein got its name from the waxy shine of the stone, which reminds of animal horns.
Flint can be found at the Baltic Sea and in England, chert can be found in the Limestone Alps, the Franconian Jura, Canada and England.
Flint can have the colours grey, bluish, grey-white and brown-black. Chert is mostly coloured like beige, grey, yellow, brown or red.
