Fire Opal

Fire Opal has its name because of its fiery orange-red colour. The name Opal comes from "upala" = precious stone, which came to Europe early via ancient Greece and Rome.

Fire Opal is also sometimes called Iris Opal when it is brownish or colourless.

Fire opal is found in Mexico, Oregon/USA, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

Depending on its iron content, it appears colourless, yellow, orange or dark red.
