Feldspar received its name in 1750 because of its good fissility (spat). Where feldspar comes from is not clear. Feldspar has innumerable synonyms due to its frequency, e.g. variegated feldspar, adular, albite.

The mineral is found in England, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, USA, Brazil, Japan.

Feldspar is almost always brightly coloured: colourless, white, grey, pink, yellow or brown and it belongs to the mineral class of framework silicates.
