Halite (rock salt)
It can be assumed that halite has a connection with the sea because salt is extracted from the sea. The Greek word "hals" = salt is derived from "halos" = sea. Synonyms for halite are rock salt, sodium chloride or common salt.
Deposits of the stone are found in the USA, Austria, northern Germany and Poland. Salt lakes are found in Uthas and North Africa.
Halite can have many different colours: white, colourless, pink, orange, blue, brown or black.
