Alexandrite got its name from the Russian Tsar Alexander, it was one of his favourite stones
Alexandrite is formed in mica slate containing chrome
It was discovered around 1833 in the emerald mines of the Takowaja Valley in Russia
Today there are deposits in Minas Garais Brazil
