Girasol stone
Girasol in Italian means "to turn in the sun" (girare = to turn, sole = sun). Girasol is a stone that has colourless, intimate intergrowths of opal and quartz with a milky glow.
It can currently be found in Brazil and Madagascar. It is also called half opal, sun opal or sun stone.
One speaks of girasol when the mixing ratio of opal and quartz is approximately balanced. The stone is colourless-clear, and light gives it a light, bright, milky shimmer.
Girasol belongs to the mineral class of oxides.
