Vesuvian stone

Vesuvian was named in 1795 by Abraham Gottlob after its occurrence in Vesuvian ejecta. Synonyms are chromidocras, cypine or duparcite.

It is found at Vesuvius or in Norway, California, Mexico, South Africa and Canada.

Its colour varies from blackish brown, brown, reddish brown, yellow, gooseberry green to rose red and purple. Crystals can also be multicoloured.
