It is difficult to find the rock in which a fossil is found. Hundreds of stones are split up in vain before one encounters an orthoceras. For about 6 hours the locals knock the orthoceras out of the granite rock with a small chisel. With an age of 300 million years, these fossils belong to the earth's antiquity and thus belong to an era that was, for example, far before the dinosaurs. Only particularly hard, indestructible rock  can survive this long period. The Orthoceras fossil looks almost like metal due to the nature of the material. It is shiny black, very hard and has a metallic sound.
The Orthoceras developed over half a billion years ago. They were squid-like monsters that reached a length of 5 meters in the Ordovician. In later epochs the cephalopods remained much smaller. Muscular tentacles on its head earned it its name. They were good, fast swimmers and cruel, carnivorous predators.

Fossils are mainly used as protective stones. Orthocerats are supposed to clean their environment from pressure, fear and jealousy, furthermore orhocerats are supposed to bring more satisfaction, strengthen the personal assertiveness and bring more self-confidence.
In children and adolescents they are supposed to promote the development of a healthy mind and a sense of justice.
