Ruby

The name ruby comes from the Latin "rubeus = red". It has been known since the 12th century. Synonyms for it are anthrax, demantspat or harmophane. Gemstone qualities of ruby are found in Burma, Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Its colour varies from pink to red with a violet tinge (pigeon's blood red).
