Rhyolite comes from the Greek rhyx = lava flow, and refers to the volcanic origin of the rock. Rhyolite was created in 1861 by 2 explorers.Grpner rhyolite is also called eye jasper or panther jasper, brown rhyolite as leopard skin jasper, and yellow-red-beige rhyolite as Aztec stone.
Rhyolite occurs worldwide, but the countries dominating the trade are Australia, Mexico and Nevada/USA.
Rhyolite can have the colours green, brown or red-beige banded.
Rhyolite consists mainly of silicates
