Dumortierite is primarily formed from silica-rich boric acid-containing magma.
Dumortierite deposits of magmatic nature are located in Namibia, Mozambique and Madagascar

Dumortierite is a basic aluminium borosilicate with some iron and small amounts of manganese.
It belongs to the mineral class of island silicates, formula: (Al,Fe)7[O3/BO3/(SiO4)3] + Mn.
